Title: Wishing and Dreaming
Author: Skeddy_kat
Word Count: About 1000
Rating: G
Summary: Ronon and the team escape the fairytale ending. Sheer silliness.

I'm wishing for the one I love
To find me today
I'm hoping
And I'm dreaming of
The nice things he'll say

Lyrics by Larry Morey

They found the planet listed in a hidden subdirectory of the Ancient database. The surrounding description was flowery and vague, even for Ancient. All they could be sure of was that the planet housed a great treasure. From what they saw when they stepped through the stargate, any treasure was probably long gone.

The stargate was in an overgrown clearing. A dense forest lay to the left and behind. Traces of a road led off to the right, where they could see ruins in the distance.

Rodney pulled out his PDA. “No trace of any power signatures…no, wait. I have a faint energy trace about a mile and a half…” he turned, pointing, “that way.” He indicated the darkest part of the forest. “Of course it’s that way, why did I even bother checking?”

The thick trees and underbrush made travel difficult. They couldn’t travel in anything near a straight line. After spending more time backtracking and detouring than moving forward, they reached a clearing.

The moss-covered ruins of a stone cottage stood a short distance from a small river. Farther down the shoreline, what was left of a stone bridge reached for the opposite bank. And across the clearing from the house, they found her.

She was lying in a clear crystal stasis pod at the top of a raised dais. Unlike the alternate Elizabeth, this woman was still young and beautiful. She wasn’t dressed in the colorless clothing preferred by the Ancients, either, but in bright yellow and deep blue. Her black hair spread out across a red velvet pillow.

Rodney searched fruitlessly for the pod’s controls. “There doesn’t seem to be any way to-”

“You’re doing it wrong,” Ronon said. Pushing Rodney aside, he moved to the pod, lifted the cover, dropped to one knee, and softly pressed his lips against the sleeping woman’s. One of the Marines, Rodney suspected it was Cadman, had taken to showing Ronon the Disney movies. No one had expected him to take such a shine to them.

“Ronon,” Sheppard began, “Buddy, I don’t think that’s going to…” He broke off as the figure on the bed let out a soft sigh.

Calm gray eyes opened and looked up at Ronon. “Am I still dreaming?”

“Nah, you’re awake.” He stood and moved back; letting Teyla help the woman sit up.

“I am Delia.” She directed her words to Ronon, barley acknowledging Teyla’s help. Rodney began stepping forward to introduce himself, but Sheppard laid a restraining hand on his arm.

“Ronon,” he answered her gruffly. “Teyla, Sheppard, and McKay,” he added, nodding at his teammates in turn.

Her eyes never left his face. “Many years I have dreamed of the one who would awaken me. Never did I conceive of one such as you. You are strong and well-made.”

Rodney rolled his eyes at Sheppard. “Yes, yes, we get it, he’s wonderful, he saved you, congratulations all around, and whatnot. Do you have any idea what powers this thing?”

She went on as if she hadn’t heard him. “My friends the Derim placed me in this coffin, thinking me dead. Instead, I merely slept, dreaming endless possibilities of my champion and of our future ruling his kingdom together, side by side. The Ancestors foretold that one would come and awaken me and I would be his and we would find great happiness. I just love happy endings, don’t you?”

Rodney wasn’t sure whether he was amused or appalled. Beside him, a muffled snort-turned-suspicious-cough showed Sheppard’s take on the situation. Teyla’s expression was mostly unreadable, but Rodney was pretty sure the raised eyebrow was Teyla for laughter. Ronon looked downright uncomfortable.

The girl chattered away, apparently not needing any response. “Of course we’ll have to take the Derim with us. There aren’t many of them left and they rely on me. You’ll like them. They used be miners until the ore gave out, then they turned to farming. They’ll probably think you’re a giant, so try not to scare them. I wonder where they are. They should be around. They made me cook for them. Will I have to cook for you, too? I’m a good cook, but I only know how to cook for a large family. Do you want a large family? Oh, and you’ll have to attack my stepmother. She tried to kill me. We could totally take over her kingdom, but I want her to stay in prison for a hundred years with no company except her mirror. And—,” at this point she gave a tremendous yawn.

“I’m feeling very sleepy,” she said. “Isn’t that funny after all those years of sleep? You won’t mind if I take a short nap, will you? Maybe I can pick up that last dream, just where I left it. A handsome stranger riding a huge white marnock was riding to wake me. He wasn’t as tall as you are, but he was much less hairy. I think I’ll just…” She laid her head back on the velvet pillow and began snoring.

Ronon jumped forward quickly, shut the lid of the stasis pod, and then looked at the others a little sheepishly. “I don’t think I was the guy for her. Either of you want a shot?”

“I’m good,” Sheppard added quickly.

Rodney didn’t answer. He was busy looking at the power readings. They were exactly the same as they had been before Ronon woke her up.

“Will she be all right here?” Teyla asked.

“Oh, she should be fine.” Rodney answered. “The power levels are back to their pre-Prince Charming state.”

“Watch it, McKay!” Ronon growled.

“Ok, let’s head back to the gate,” Sheppard said. “I don’t think there is anything on this planet we need.”

Rodney couldn’t help muttering, “And they lived happily ever after,” but he was careful that Ronon didn’t hear it. Sheppard either didn’t hear it or ignored it. Teyla giggled out loud.
